Clinton County Youth Business Venture Competition

The jobs of the future will come from enterprises not in existence today. Where those new ideas pop up will most likely be the locations the new businesses take root. It is for those reasons the Clinton County Economic Alliance initiated the Clinton County Youth Business Venture Competition last year. If we can excite our young adults to think about new business ventures hopefully some of those will bear fruit and prosper here in Clinton County.

CCEA October 12 General Membership Meeting

Senate Candidates Judy Emmons and James Hoisington to Speak

The Clinton County Economic Alliance is delighted to announce that the two candidates for the Michigan Senate district that includes Clinton County have agreed to speak at the Alliance’s upcoming quarterly meeting. The Alliance is meeting on October 12 at 7:30 a.m. at the Clinton County RESA offices in St. Johns. Address is 1013 S. U. S. 27. The Alliance welcomes all residents of the county to come and hear the positions of Ms. Emmons and Mr. Hoisington. This is a wonderful opportunity to hear their views on a variety of issues currently facing the state and the region. There is no charge for attending the event. Ms. Emmons and Mr. Hoisington will begin speaking at 8:15 a.m.

May 2010 Update

CLINTON COUNTY RECEIVES GRANT FUNDS

The Environmental Protection Agency has selected Clinton County to receive two Brownfield Assessment Grants totaling $400,000. The county will use the grant funds to conduct assessments on brownfields and to investigate the impact of these sites on nearby sensitive properties (e.g., schools, parks, dwellings). The assessment grants will also help preserve farmland by promoting the reuse of Brownfield properties.

Clinton County Youth Business Venture Competition

Last month we mentioned that  the Clinton County Economic Alliance had initiated the Clinton County Business Venture Competition for high school and middle school students.  This month we are delighted to list the winners of the competition.  Nine high school students and two middle school students submitted applications explaining their new business ventures.  Five business plans dealt with a new product and four involved providing a new or existing service.  One middle school student submitted an application to provide a service and the other a product.

January 2010 Update

CCEA MOVING FORWARD
The Clinton County Economic Alliance (CCEA) is now 2-1/2 years old. Over that time, much has been accomplished. More on that in the February issue. To insure continued progress the Leadership Board has entered into a contract with the Resource Development Group to assist them with their fund raising efforts. The new three year fund raising effort will kick off at the CCEA’s annual meeting this coming Tuesday, January 12. Chip Holcombe of Resource Development Group will be present to provide an overview of the fund raising project.
